Frank M. Norton

Our beloved Frank went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 2nd at the age of 85 in Wilmington, NC. Frank was born on January, 25th 1928 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Parker and Elizabeth Norton.

Frank graduated from Oklahoma A&M ( now Oklahoma State University) in 1945 with a degree in history. He worked several years in his home state as a guidance counselor and teacher at the high school level. From teaching, he went into the mail order business for Montgomery Ward, in Forth Worth Texas. He eventually settled into clothing manufacturing as an industrial engineer and plant manager, working in Texas, Georgia, New York and North Carolina. Frank was Vice-President of Hart Shaeffner and Marx. He was transferred to Whiteville, North Carolina as Vice-President and General Manager of Whiteville Apparel.

While living in New York State, Frank was involved in the expansion of the Southern Baptist Church. His efforts resulted in the foundation of two Southern Baptist Churches, one in Fredonia, NY and one in Amherst, NY.

After retiring from the clothing manufacturing industry, Frank obtained his Real Estate license and worked for several real estate firms in the greater Wilmington, NC area.

Frank enjoyed spending time with family, golf, reading and watching football.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents and two infant children.

Frank is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Wauneva Norton, daughter Elizabeth Norton, son Mark Norton, son Max Norton and his wife Meg, and two grandchildren Nola and Max all of Wilmington, NC. Also surviving are his brother Ronald Norton and his wife Sharye, two sisters, Charlotte Shockey of Chickasha, Oklahoma and Kay Carlisle of Cantonsville, Maryland and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was planned for Monday March 4th at 11:00am at the Myrtle Grove Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC. The Dr.James Glasgow will preside with reading from Dr. Charles Barton.
